mugs and crafts

T left for DC on Sunday, so I've been alone to do what I please...which has pretty much been to bum around and watch some terrible TV without being judged for it. Some fresh strawberries and asparagus from the farm down the street are good distractions for the time being.

To settle into the house for another night alone (sniff sniff) I made a cup of sleepytime tea to relax by myself. As I was making my tea I decided I should let you in on one of my secret borderline-hoarding items...mugs. I love everything about mugs, the sizes, the shapes, the colors, the creativity, the warmth transfer...I could go on and on. Unfortunately T tries to stifle my love for mugs and whenever I see a pretty mug in a store I am abruptly met with an ultimatum: buy one throw two away. I'm sorry but in what world is this a fair deal?

I have also been preparing some upcoming DIY mini-projects to keep me busy next time he leaves again...

grillin' weather

This weekend was prime grilling weather and we took full advantage of it! Saturday was cedar plank grilled salmon with grilled corn and asparagus. Sunday wrapped the weekend up with chicken and pepper kabobs with rice pilaf and my favorite summer side of all time, garlic basil corn.
Saturday's dinner ended with the first ice cream of the season, while Sunday's dinner ended with these little bad boys:

I used this recipe, but next time I plan to make the cakes in a mini muffin tin to make these even smaller and more portable!

april showers bring may flowers and easy seasonal recipes

With the warm weather here to stay (until the rain  returns briefly), the seasonal veggies and flowers are welcome back! Warm weather means sandals, mini-dresses, flowers, smoothies, bright and healthful dinners!

Our yard is continuing to bloom, slowly but surely! And not to worry, Erin is also taking full advantage of the sun.

Wednesday night was a perfect mid-week break to have a mini-app date with a close friend. She brought the avocado and mango mixed greens with a nice vinaigrette. We also had the roasted artichokes, cause we're fancy like that. We finished up with homemade frozen yogurt and blueberry cubes!

Tonight I kicked off the warm weekend by making more of my favorite vegetable (asparagus)!! I whipped up an easy asparagus, mushroom, chicken, farfalle dish with a white wine and white truffle oil light sauce topped with parmigiano-reggiano. Easy, delicious, seasonal, and amazing as a left-over!

Now onto date-night movie-night! Enjoy your weekend!

grilled steak with curry mustard sauce and asparagus

Eek, it's been a while...

Just a quick one before horror movie night with popcorn and the lights off.

This week's main dinner was a delicious grilled steak (T's job) with my own curry-mustard sauce along with some grilled asparagus (my jobs!).

Asparagus is one of my favorite veggies, and although Spring is not my favorite season, it does bring my long green friends back to me fresh for a small window of time!!

Unfortunately I was a terrible blogger this past weekend and forgot to take pictures of our dinner at 80 Thoreau. Not too worried though, I'm sure I will be back within the next 2 months...especially for one of their "tonic & gins" with their house-made gin.

Tomorrow T and I will celebrate our 5-year anniversary at Clio, where I will hopefully remember to document the culinary experience...as well as some of my Loubies!
