lobsta love

The Boston food truck scene has been busy with throw-downs against NYC, but they haven't let this affect their schedules and their food quality. The closest food truck to my work is the Lobsta Love truck, one of Boston's favorites! Who could say no to this menu? With so many options and such reasonable prices, I will definitely be back.

I headed over to the bright red truck, dreaming of the organic mac n' cheese with lobster and bisque & a slider on the side. Sadly, the mac n' cheese wasn't ready by the time I went, so I happily switched to a slider and a bowl of the lobster bisque.

For a $6 slider with a $5 bowl of bisque, it was a very filling and satisfying lunch! The slider was as tasty as it was cute, and the bisque had large chunks of lobster with a creamy and not overly-salted base. Next time I will head over with my fingers crossed for the mac n' cheese, but will happily settled for the lobster BLT!

UPDATE: The lobster mac n' cheese is delicious, creamy, and served in a generous lunch portion!!

simple weekend recap: edition 11

Friday after work I met up with a friend to try the Boylston location of the Parish Cafe (information here). A minute-walk from the Arlington T station, the Parish Cafe uses recipes for sandwiches provided by chefs all across Boston (along with an amazing cocktail menu). I went with the L'Espalier, created by the chef & owner of L'Espalier, Frank McClelland. A tasty combination of fresh Maine crab meat mixed with a homemade remoulade served open faced on toasted brioche topped with sliced avocado and mango. Served with Cape Cod potato chips and salted greens. I also opted for the Stella al fresco, absolut Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka mixed with fresh lime juice, simple syrup and Ruby Red Grapefruit juice. Shaken and served straight up with a splash of Sprite. Delicious & generously strong.

Saturday, Erin & I spent some time with the leaves and pumpkins...

...before heading out to a friend's new place in the South End. We went to Aquitaine for an early dinner with their prix fixe menu that is offered from 5:30-6:30 nightly. A 3-course meal with a glass of wine for $29.95, a steal for a large-portioned French dinner in Boston! I will definitely be back for the regular menu.

We slept in and started the day on the right foot
with a BLT with baby spinach and grape tomatoes...

...before a walk through the dog park with Erin on a perfect fall day.

When the sun began to set, we headed home for a dinner of squash
risotto and some pumpkin carving (and seed toasting!)...

before ending the weekend with a dessert snack
of homemade banana bread and tea.

chocolate peanut butter cup cookies

Perfect for holiday parties, and peanut butter cravings, chocolate peanut butter cup cookies pack a tasty punch with minimal effort. You can either make them in a mini-muffin tin to make them muffin-cookies, or make them into crispy gooey cookies (my favorite way!). These can be enjoyed with a small glass of milk or crumbled over ice cream.

Ingredients (makes 36 mini muffins or 24 cookies):
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbs milk
36 or 24 mini peanut butter cups

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375degrees. Mix together flour, salt, and baking soda in a small bowl. Set aside.

2. Cream together the butter, sugar, peanut butter, and brown sugar. Beat in egg, vanilla, and milk.

3. Add the flour mixture and mix.

4. Muffin-cookies: Shape in into small balls and place each in muffin tin. Push peanut butter cup into dough.

Cookies: Make small balls and place on parchment paper on a baking sheet. Push peanut butter cup into dough. Top with another small dough ball like in the recipe for chocolate chip cookies with banana

5. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until melty and toasty.

meeting christian louboutin

A few weeks ago when I escorted a friend to purchase her first pair of Loubies, the sales associate added us to the list for the upcoming Louboutin event at Saks. TONIGHT WAS THAT EVENT. Tonight I met Christian Louboutin, and believe you me I was super excited! I wore my Lady Lynch-es in a long line of uber-wealthy Bostonians for 2.5 hours before being able to shake my shoe-idol's hand, have him sing a little song, and walk off with my personalized new Loubies (as he only signs unworn pairs of shoes).

He sat for at least 4 hours patiently signing new shoes and bags,
all while being genuinely nice, warm, and friendly.

post-meeting: happy as a clam

After meeting Christian Louboutin, he has solidified
his icon-status in my mind (and closet)!

simple weekend recap: edition 10

Late last week, I headed over to the new waterfront area restaurant, Trade,
to try a few small plates (and cocktails)...
Grilled squid and fried tentacles with beans, olives and vinegar peppers
Baked mushroom and ricotta tart with lemon and endive
...before heading to Mike's Pastry for some cannolis and a lobster tail.

I made a chicken (and soup) to fend off the flu season...

...and a nice neighbor left some goodies from her garden
on our porch (squash, parsley & rosemary)!

T & I tested out our new, respective, nespresso machines...

...while the animals rested up for the tough week ahead!
